“Old Faithful”

Location: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming (2018)

Old Faithful Geyser erupts during sunrise in Yellowstone National Park.

I awoke early – about 2 hours prior to sunrise from my campsite near Yellowstone Lake.
(I didn’t want to miss this.)

Eating a PB&J (I eat those a lot of the road), in the parking lot at Old Faithful, I danced back and forth on the balls of my feet to stay warm.

(It was one of those crisp autumn mornings where your breath condenses but still not cold enough for frost to form on the ground.)

The crowds that typify Old Faithful were nowhere to be found this early in the morning, so I had the luxury of choosing my spot.

Double checking the eruption time at the visitor’s center, I scouted the location in this photograph while keeping in the back of my mind that the timing may be off.

Old Faithful Geyser can erupt every 44 min to 2 hours. Never an ‘if’ but ‘when’, the big question was would it erupt in time for sunrise.

A resounding YES.
