“Multnomah Falls”

Location: Columbia River Gorge, Oregon (2019)

Heavily photographed and visited, Multnomah Falls in the autumn is especially popular.

(I was among a large crowd of photographers that morning.)

We all had to protect our lenses from the constant spray billowing out from the base of the falls.

It was falling like Portland rain on our cameras: light but persistent rain. Annoying. But not enough to cause any damage.

Occasionally people would wander out onto the bridge. Sometimes I’d take a photograph without noticing the people on the bridge – I was so focused on keeping the front of my lens dry.

But eventually, in between drying the front of the lens and the people on the bridge, a moment arrived to produce this photograph.
