“Lower South Falls”

Location: Silver Falls State Park, Oregon (2019)

Lower South Falls is shrouded in autumn colors from big leaf maples in Silver Falls State Park, Oregon.

Native fall colors in Oregon are mostly yellow – primarily from big leaf maples. The yellowing big leaves from Big Leaf Maples compliment the green moss and evergreens that are so prevalent in the Pacific Northwest.

Silver Falls State Park has numerous waterfalls to photograph but only a few are picture perfect.

This is one of them.

There were quite a few people here this day and so in taking this shot, I had to wait for the right moment when people were out of the frame.

(Like several of the other waterfalls in the park, Lower South Falls has a path that leads directly behind it – a popular place for people to stop at take a selfie.)

If you visit after a rainstorm or in the spring and early summer when the mountain snow begins to melt, the waterfall becomes a curtain of water over twice its width.
