“Lightkeeper’s Commute”

Location: Heceta Head Lighthouse, Oregon (2019)

A classic view of one of the most photographed lighthouses on the West Coast of the United States, Heceta Head is both beautiful and treacherous.

This location can be VERY windy. As was the case for this photo.

I had to grab onto my camera like it was a cowboy riding a bucking bronco. A high shutter speed and a tripod allowed me to stabilize the camera well enough to quickly grab this photograph and my hat as the wind tried to knock down anything standing in its way.

A marine layer can be seen in back of the cape. Sometimes that marine layer can blot out the lighthouse, but the presence of a marine layer is indicative of the summer season along the Oregon coast. (Not to mention that persistent wind! It blows down wildly from the North.)

This is a classic and romantic view of the lighthouse and the cape. You’ve may have seen a lot of postcard images from this spot. (Always worth a visit.)
