“Haystack Blues”

Location: Pacific City, Oregon (2019)

A rare moment along the Oregon coast, Haystack Rock is silhouetted against a backdrop of white surrounded by blue.

Taken in the morning shortly after sunrise, the sky became dramatically blue. The effect was enhanced by the glassy reflection of the water off the sand.

Visiting the coast is sure to lift anyone’s mood, even when the sky is blue. But on a morning like today, not only was the sky blue, but some of the clouds too.

I don’t know why. I don’t know how. But if I had to say, the clouds in blue are blocked from the sun and so their coloration is from reflected light.

Beautiful.

I’ve never seen anything like it before or after.
