“Dune Storm”

Location: Pacific City, Oregon (2019)

As a storm moves on shore, the sky darkens and the wind picks up as rain begins to return.

Hardly anyone out on the beach when this photograph was captured. Rain had been falling steadily on and off throughout the night and into the morning.

A pause in the rain allow for this long-exposed image that shows dramatic movement in the sky while simultaneously smoothing out the ocean.

These long exposure shots can really add drama to the sky when wind patterns push the clouds toward the subject of the image, in this case, the sandstone cape: Cape Kiwanda.

Not all days are like this on the Oregon coast, but if there’s going to be clouds and rain, it’ll probably look like this in Pacific City.
