“Vista House (Fog)”

Location: Chanticleer Point, Oregon (2019)

Sunrise from Chanticleer Point offers a fog studded view of Vista House and the Columbia River Gorge.

The fog swept over Vista House, momentarily obstructing it from view. It was an unexpected element that created depth and mystery to this photograph.

I had arrived early in the morning with the hope that the clouds would be illuminated bright and pink by the sunrise. (They never did.)

Instead fog appeared as if coming from nowhere. It was a bit of a shock!

The fog moved with such speed that every fraction of a second produced a different mood and scene.

It rolled over the trees and Vista House in the distance. Pockets of fog would come and go as it disappeared over the ridge.

Timing was very important in the development of this photograph.

The fog was the conductor.
