“Vista House (Autumn) (1)”

Location: Chanticleer Point, Oregon (2019)

Peak fall foliage at Crown Point in the Columbia River Gorge on an overcast morning in late October.

Like Rapunzel letting down her blonde hair from a tower above, the big leaf maples at Crown Point climb the cliff to the base of Vista House in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon.

(Autumn colors were particularly vibrant and rich due to a spell of dry and sunny days.)

With what would promise to be a spectacular sunrise during the height of autumn turned into an overcast morning that proved all but a failure. Most of the photographers on location, disappointed by the sunrise, had already left by the time this photo was taken.

But despite the sky being unremarkable, the clouds and fog give the distant background depth and mystery.

And thus, my imagination began to work… "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair."
