“Three Brothers (BW)”

Location: Siletz Bay, Oregon (2020)

On a cloudy morning, the Three Brothers are dreamily reflected in the high tide of Siletz Bay near Lincoln City.

Connected by shallow rock filled depressions, each of the brothers is covered with vegetation – two of which support trees which resemble bonsai.

The overcast sky and the blue hue from the nascent sunlight creates a mysterious and calming aura to the photograph. A long shutter speed helps to smooth out the incoming tide waters that were filtering into the bay.

As I explored the area, I noticed the effect of the reflection was enhanced the lower I positioned my tripod and camera.

Getting as low to the ground as possible, my belly was resting on the sand. The water was only a few feet away and rising.

(The tide was still coming in)

Every few minutes, a surge of water would move upstream from the mouth of the bay.

It would distort the reflection.
