Pastel Thoughts”

Location: Bob Straub State Park (Pacific City), Oregon (2019)

Calm waters, blue clouds and pastel red skies, are punctuated by Haystack Rock of Pacific City after sunset.

The rock anchors my thoughts. The clouds mimic my emotions. The sky reveals.
When the sun sets, the majority begin to rest.
It’s a time for the mind to quietly reflect.

But.

When I photographed this scene, there were a couple hundred people nearby drinking, dancing, chatting, and letting loose.
It was the evening of the 4th of July fireworks show at Bob Straub State Park.
It was anything but quiet.

However, when I see this photograph, I don’t think of the noise.
I think about the moment I took this photograph and what it symbolizes.
