”Old Red Barn”

Location: Newberg, Oregon (2020)

A deteriorating old red barn rests at the end of a young vineyard amongst oak trees on Aspen Way in the outskirts of Newberg, Oregon.

How long is this barn going to be around? Does it still serve any practical purpose? Those questions I always find myself asking whenever I pass by this vineyard on my bicycle when riding down Aspen Way.

Owned by Foothills Vineyard, the barn has a lot of character and appeal. It deserved to be photographed. And so, on the last sunny blue-sky day of autumn, I came to Aspen Way and parked my car on the sloping gravel shoulder that bordered the vineyard. Welded wire mesh fencing provided a slot for my camera lens.

I lined up the rows of grapevines until the old red barn too center stage.
