Summary:
I just love how the evening sunlight separates the foreground from the background. The golden sunlight accentuates the already orange tuff and creates a sense of depth not found at earlier times during daylight (see photo below).

When I look at this photograph, I wonder what lies ahead. The gravel road feels inviting. The golden light gives me a sense of hope. I feel as if whatever I discover beyond the photograph will be welcoming and awesome.

In fact, what lies ahead IS welcoming and awesome. Just past the bend are hiking routes that take the traveler through juniper trees and honeycomb shaped rock. The perfume of juniper filled my nostrils with a fragrance that is reminiscent of cedar. And the honeycomb rock looks like nothing else I’ve seen.

You can see the honeycombing in this photograph – especially the rock in the upper left corner. Like coffee cake, the crust of the rock is a dark brown that covers a lighter interior. It’s as if the rock in this region had been baked in some giant volcanic oven.
