“Pyramid Surf”

Location: Pyramid Rock Beach, O’ahu (Marine Corps Base Hawaii) (2020)

The opportunity to photograph here was extended to me by a friend and his wife.

Because this is on an active military base, access is restrictive. There was no way to predict what I’d see. I hadn’t previsualized this location online.

In fact, I came here the morning before my flight back to the mainland – hardly any time to find a composition. (I just had to go with whatever.)

The previous days that I had been on O’ahu, there was pouring down rain every day and no sight of the sun. (This was my opportunity to finally photograph.)

As I waited for a surfer to appear, I felt the breeze of the wind and the warmth of the sun. (This was finally feeling like a Hawaii day. The weather I had been waiting for.)
