“Fairy Falls”

Location: Columbia River Gorge, Oregon (2019)

Fall colors last year in Oregon were spectacular. A combination of dry sunny weather and little rain meant that colors could develop fully.

However, even so, most of Oregon is green in autumn. One of the great exceptions being Big Leaf Maple – whose leaves add a touch of yellow to this photograph.

Located one mile and 900 vertical feet up from the trailhead, I had the this popular waterfall to myself for only a few minutes before a wave of hikers arrived to take selfies.

Using rubber boots, I stood in the shallow cold stream as the delicate spray from the waterfall coated my camera lens.

The smell of the forest was dank and pure and the quiet roar of the falls drowned out any competing thoughts in my head as I tried to keep my lens clean.

Oregon is home to so many waterfalls, but Fairy Falls is easily a favorite due to its angelic shape.
