“Crooked Cold”

Location: Mt. Tumalo, Oregon (2020)

Resembling a scene from a Tim Burton film, the weight of ice and snow bend the tops of trees on Mt. Tumalo during sunset overlooking the Three Sisters Wilderness.

The light was fading fast – my original goal of simply scouting out a location for tomorrow’s sunrise was immediately scrapped. (The next morning, I photographed my “Mt. Bachelor” series.)

The light was illuminating the sides of the distant snow drenched volcanoes – a moment that needed to be photographed. *

Looking around for a clearing amongst the trees, I discovered a grove that contained taller trees, one of which had a prominent crook, that opened up to allow an unobstructed view.

The volcanoes from left to right are South Sister, Middle Sister, and Broken Top.
(Only a sliver of North Sister can be seen to the left of Broken Top.)
