“Barnacle Arch”

Location: Cape Kiwanda, Oregon (2019)

Water flows through a sandstone arch lined with barnacles as it swirls past rocks on an overcast morning on the Oregon coast.

The barnacles inside the sandstone arch begin to stir as the tidewaters return, their six-hour fast about to end.

When exploring the tide pools of Cape Kiwanda, this archway becomes exposed giving the tide explorer an opportunity to walk through and look at the gooseneck and acorn barnacles that cling to the walls.
           
It’s exciting to be inside the arch, among the barnacles. They look so odd with their protruding stalks. The opportunity to scare a friend is there. But beware of damaging the barnacles.
